This single story addition added much needed light and space to a heavily shaded home with predominant living space on its northern side. Now, southern sunlight pours through the new windows and spills into the adjacent dining room with its repeated arch. The architectural necessity of a flat roof presented an opportunity to drink in more sun, which we capitalized upon by building a two-tone deck with perpendicular slat panels (ideal for maintenance) and pergola–a perfect perch for reading the paper while sipping coffee.
